Greensong Grove Festival Wrap-Up

Yesterday & Friday the family and I went out to the Greensong Grove Samhain festival.

Samhain is always my favorite time here in Florida to be outside, the weather was great, low 80s with a good breeze and no sign of rain so being outside all day was very pleasant. Greensong Grove is a group I went to for years starting back in 2001. they hold ritual for every sabbat and 2 day festivals for Samhain and Beltaine.

I’ve stopped going at various times but in the end I always return.

Things were a bit tough with both of the kids. Lil ‘R was known to about everyone after the first day as he ran around from the table a few times. Because it wasn’t too far away (just 30 minutes) we opted to not camp out and came home at night. Friday we left at dinner time because both kids skipped their naps and were grumpy butts.

On Saturday I was so happy there were quite a few other kids there, including boys. Lil ‘R met a kindred spirit in an almost 4 year old. Crazy enough I know the boys father from years ago. We were both a part of a college pagan group at the University of GSG-Samhain3South Florida. They live about 30 minutes away and hopefully we can continue to see them at events. Our boys seem to be of similar personalities. First and foremost, they both love the dirt! we had hoped to stay through main ritual and though Lil ‘R did nap, GSG_Samhain4Wee Rose didn’t, they were both behaving so badly that we knew main ritual would have been a bad idea so we left at about 7:30pm. I miss being to hang out in the evening which was my favorite part in my youth but I know in a few years we’ll be able to get that back. Patience right?

I’ve been going to events for years and in different roles. I’ve been staff at the Florida Pagan Gathering for about a decade. I took a break here and there to go as just a participant. We also have taken breaks from many events because of the kids. Now that they’re both getting a bit older we’re trying our hands at going back.

This was my first time going to an event as a vender though. Now I can really understand how different an event is depending on how which role you come in as. Being a generally paying attendee to me is the most boring. Yes it means you can do what you please, go to workshops and just relax. It’s that relaxing part that I find to be boring though. I love working the events and having a job to do. Vending may be the most stressful, at least with the kids because of the limited distance I could travel. When everyone was behaved and peaceful though it was really nice.

I don’t know how many physical events I will do. The crowd was thin and we made enough to cover our gas we used so it wasn’t too bad but really I think online through the blog and Etsy is definitely the best route. My local community is just not what it used to be.

I am sending items along to consign in someone else’s booth at the Florida Pagan Gathering since I won’t be attending except for Saturday. But I don’t think I’m going to break my neck to be well stocked though. I want to get one or two other toy designs done and maybe some wizard hats for boys.

Also don’t forget the Halloween Bow Giveaway contest that is going on until the Monday the 17th. Time is almost out to enter.
