I am happy to present my first 100% original pattern, an Acorn.
- The little acorn is approximately 4” x 2.5".
- Done in worsted weight yarn, specifically Red Heart Super Saver in Coffee and Warm Brown.
- Size H hook
- Stitched in the round. Be sure to use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each row.
Starting with the Coffee Color
Row 1: Ch 3 -3
Row 2: Ch 1, starting in 2nd loop sc through back loop -3
Cap
From here on out use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each row. Will be done in a round.
Row 3: ch 1, then 5 sc into the base of the stem worked around it. -5
Row three is a bit tricky. At the base of the stem work the 5 stiches around it through an gap. I worked 2 first on one side and then the other three on the back side. The goal is to make a base for the cap to work from.Row 4: (2 sc in next sc) around -10
Row 5: (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around - 15
Row 6: (1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -20
Row 7: (1 sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -25
Row 8: (1 sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -30
Row 9: (1 sc in next sc) around -30
Row 10: Repeat Row 9 -30
Row 11: (1 sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog in next 2 sc) around -24
Row 12: (1 sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog in next 2 sc) around -18
Bottom
Color Change to Warm Brown
Row 13: (1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -24
Row 14: (1 sc in next sc) around -24
Row 15: Repeat Row 14 -24
Row 16: (1 sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog in next 2 sc) around -20
Row 17: (1 sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog in next 2 sc) around -16
Row 18: (1 sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog in next 2 sc) around -12
Row 19: Repeat Row 18 -9
Add Stuffing
Row 20: (1 sc in next sc, sc2tog in next 2 sc) around -6
Row 21: Repeat Row 20 -4
Row 20: Sew all remaining stitches together and pull extra tail inside through the center.
If you have any questions about the pattern please leave a comment. This is my first pattern so I doubt I wrote it perfectly. I even added a rattle into one I made and have it up in the Etsy shop so it’s pretty versatile.Abbreviations
sc – single crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
Have fun with it and I’d love to see photos of the final products other people make! Add them to the flickr group!
Please this pattern is for personal use only though.
