Making an Upcycled Yule Log Candle Holder

Upcycled Yule Log Candle Holder Tutorial

Pin‌·It

I told you all tutorials would be back!

I made up this easy and very inexpensive Yule Log Candle Holder using an easy transfer technique that I think gives a nice rustic look.

Materials I needed

  • Empty clean glass jar
  • Small piece of White Cotton Fabric
  • Piece of Cardstock
  • Freezer Paper
  • Inkjet Printer
  • Downloadable Graphic
  • Yarn
  • Wired Ribbon
  • Craft Glue
  • Mod Podge
  • Spray Adhesive
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue

Transferring the Image

Upcycled Yule Log Candle Holder TutorialI originally learned of this process from Home Frosting that will let you transfer an inkjet printed image to about anything porous.

Lightly spray the piece of cardstock with the spray adhesive and adhere to the freezer paper. Make sure the glossy side of the freezer paper is up. Trim the freezer paper to the exact size of the card stock and let it dry.

Place your reinforced freezer paper in your printer and print the image file onto it. Ensure it prints on the freezer paper side.

Place your print out face down onto the white cotton fabric and rub the image in carefully. Use a credit card or anything to make sure it transfers over.

Putting it all together on your Jar

Cut the white fabric to fit around your jar. For my jar that was 4” tall. Mod Podge your fabric onto the jar. I find a sponge brush to be the easiest brush to use for Mod Podge.

My fabric was thin enough that I didn’t put a coat of Mod Podge on top. I wanted to keep a bit of the rough texture of the fabric very present.

Let it dry.

Use craft glue and wrap the yarn around the top and bottom of the jar to make a border around the white fabric. Go slow as you do it. This was probably the most tedious step for me because the yarn kept trying to slip upward as I was working around the curve of the jar on top.

In the end I finished it off with a bow. This bow is done from one 30 inch piece of 1 1/2 inch wired ribbon. It has an open weave to the ribbon that I just love.
In this earlier post I described how to make holiday bows from ribbon. Glue it on with hot glue to finish off the jar.

This project went together really fast which was great. I loved how the image didn’t transfer crisp and clean but has an aged look to it. That’s why I added yarn and ribbon that both had that rustic look to compliment it. I think the final project is great and I love how the fire seems to flicker when there is a candle burning inside.

He leaned across the table to one of his male friends. After they exchanged words, the friend rose and approached me.
“His name is Marcus,” the friend of the woman-collector said, leaning in close and speaking over the music. He was shorter than me and smelled of your code is t beer and disinfectant. “He’s visiting from Damascus. Would you like to join him?”
No thanks. “I’m sorry, I was just—” I glanced around for an excuse, but found nothing. “You’ll have to excuse me.”
Dazed, I hurried back to my table, plopped into my seat, and scanned the crowd for Ivory.
But Ivory was not who caught my attention first.

Book Blurb:

“Sophia's family has skeletons, but they aren't in their graves.

At twenty-two, practicing Wiccan Sophia Parsons is scratching out a living waiting tables in her Rocky
Mountain hometown, a pariah after a string of unsolved murders with only one thing in common: her.

Sophia can imagine lots of ways to improve her life, but she'd settle for just getting rid of the buzzing
noise in her head. When the spell she casts goes wrong, the static turns into voices. Her personal
demons get company, and the newcomers are dangerous.

One of them is a man named Charles, who Sophia falls for despite her better judgment. He has
connections that might help her unveil the mystery surrounding her ancestor's hanging, but she gets
more than she bargains for when she finally decides to trust him.

Survival in his world, she learns, means not asking questions and staying out of the immortal council's
way. It's a line she crossed long ago. If Sophia wants to survive the council and save the people she
loves, she must accept who she is, perform dark magic, and fight to the death for her freedom.

The Forever Girl is a full-length Paranormal Fantasy novel that will appeal to lovers of paranormal
romance, urban fantasy, witches, vampires, ghosts, paranormal mystery, and paranormal horror.”

Yule Tide Pre-K Pack

Pagan Yule Themed Education Pack

Pin‌·It

I’m often hearing Pagan Parents talking about looking for resources to help teach their children. I’ve heard parents are looking for items that specifically teach about Paganism and their faith along with Pagan inspired general education materials.

Lil ‘R is now going through “Mommy and Daddy Pre-K” as he was asked to leave the 2nd Pre-K after a month’s time. The reason why is the Pre-K wasn’t staffed to handle him, he needed 1 on 1 attention to stay focused which they weren’t able to provide. What we are still trying to figure out is whether his focus issues stem from a biological difference like ADHD or if his behavior was avoidance based because he wasn’t comprehending.

As a result I’m now developing curriculum for Lil ‘R to work on at home to ensure he’s prepared for Kindergarten. That is where the idea for making my own Education Printables came from and I’m happy to share my first one.

Yule-Tide-PreK-Pack-SmtoLrgThe Yule Tide Pre-K Pack features 25 pages of activities. These activities help with skills of writing, color association, sequencing, counting, number recognition, simple math, patterns, cutting, and shape recognition.

Download your copy of the Yule Tide Pre-K

Over time I will be adding more packs of different themes and expansions that cover other skills including older ages. I’m looking into making a feedback form to place in the sidebar for specific requests.

Print multiple copies or laminate them so your children can do them over and over again. These packs are designed for personal use and distributed for free if you have any questions see our Terms of Use if you have any questions about usage.

Sometimes You Find Yourself in Over your Head

Courtesy of Freedigitalphotos.net
I was drowning.

I found myself completely over my head about a month back.

I wanted to scream, run away or find a nice hole to bury my head.

I took a deep breath and realized I needed a break to regroup and get organized.

With adjusting to working outside the home again, trying to write Treegold and Beegold, create posts for Crafty Bees, keep up on the Etsy shop, run the Pagan Parenting Group and a load of other details beyond the house and family. I'm sure you can all understand I needed to regroup.

Thank you everyone for being patient I had a few reasons I really needed this break.

  • Since returning to work my life has become a lot more hectic and I was really feeling the strain.
  • I needed a chance to start a clean slate and put in place some new organizational tactics. ( I'll be blogging about those later. )
  • I needed to get ahead on my blog posts and tutorials. Not to continue to always scurry last minute.

What's Coming Up

Some things will be the same around here and some will be different. I'm still going to keep Monday Madness but it's going to focus only on personal news.

I want to start incorporating more of my knowledge I've learned about teaching and create Pagan friendly lesson materials. I want to use my already existing  Crafty Bees column over at The Pagan Village  to go hand and hand with lesson plans and packs posted here.

At first I'm going to focus on the younger ages but as time goes on I will make more available in a variety of age ranges. The first a Yule Pre-K Pack will be available this Wednesday.

Other regular posts will include tutorials, new to the shop items and some of my favorite pins from Pinterest.
The newsletter will continue and it will be running on a monthly schedule with the occasional flash sale or important message.

A New Plan, A strong start

I've been working on this relaunch for a month now and with this strong foundation and planning I have hopes for the future of Treegold and Beegold. I have a road map ahead of me and a stronger focus. Treegold and Beegold is going to return its focus to crafts and education for young and not so young. That is my life that I life right now it is entirely about creating and teaching. I want this to reflect that because that's what I'm passionate about.

Over the past few months I've gotten away from sharing things with all of you and that is something I feel I really needed to change. From here on out we're going to have a mix of tutorials here, sharing, education packs along with the personal post here and there.

I hope you all enjoy what I have in-store and please if you like it share it with your social media circles.
